I'd probably be more charitable to the other songs on LC I don't like if Lover's Rock weren't on it.
Though I still prefer LC to GEER, no one song on GEER is as low a point as Lover's Rock.

But LC did have 9 more attempts at failing than GEER.

I had to laugh the other night. I was playing pool with this pissed-up bloke and Mag 7 came on the jukebox. When it came to the line, "What have we got? Magnificence!", this bloke thought it was the Ghostbusters song and started shouting "Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!" Me and my mate started to laugh at him, then we realised they are actually very similar. Too late for a lawsuit?

It would probably not be in the Clash's best interest to sue someone for lifting passages from other songs...

Tell that to the Rolling Stones.

Reminds me of Tears for Fears nicking the line "Everybody wants to rule the world" from "Charlie Don't Surf," and then Joe discussing it with one of the TFF guys.

According to my friend Joanna, Democritus was the first one to come up with "the future is unwritten."

Of course, being a Greek, she thinks they did everything first.

They probably did.

And that is an awful song.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

But to be fair, and with all love to Joe, I'm not seeing him reading Democritus.

Oh my yes. It's almost certainly just him coming up with the same concept. Joe doesn't really strike me as a very deep reader.

A true 80s anthem. It's nothing I ever seek out, but when I hear the first fifteen seconds or so, I always smile. Just something oddly comforting about the tune.

Nothing wrong with that song. Other than, of course, Hoy.
