I'm not arguing that SOS is hard to listen to, but calling MH or CO "pleasant' is a true Hestonism.

Are we talking about Silicone on Saphire? I love the stereo on that with Joe's voice bouncing between channels.

Fan of SOS and the S! tribute version with Mikey is great.

Yeah, i like the Joe stereo vocals on it, the bit where he goes "go to ram go to ram....go yourself", it's good stuff.
Also, i listened to If Music Could Talk last night and reminded myself what an insanely good track it is, the mix of Joe's vocals and the sax and piano, just magical.

Yeah the two sets of lyrics over the two channels is an amazing idea.Low Down Low wrote: ↑22 Jan 2022, 5:28pmYeah, i like the Joe stereo vocals on it, the bit where he goes "go to ram go to ram....go yourself", it's good stuff.

Fully agree, got it on loud now through the headphones and having a great time. Side 6 is fun and great at times, classics like Version City, great dubs from SOS and even Version Pardner, Career Opportunities is one I will never choose to listen to but it's a bit of fun.Marky Dread wrote: ↑21 Jan 2022, 2:09pmAre we talking about Silicone on Saphire? And then there's Shepherd's Delight.
Re: The Clash observations thread.
I like Shepherd's Delight. Especially in context of the album.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

All the dubs are great fun to listen to. Personally though I think they work better in their own company and as an extra to Sandinista!

Other than the integrated Equaliser and semi-integrated One More Dub, I think you are right. I don't find SOS, Pardner, or Mensforth to be stuff I come back to when perusing S! Treated as an extra is a good way to compartmentalize.Marky Dread wrote: ↑25 Jan 2022, 5:09pmAll the dubs are great fun to listen to. More stats:
FHTE
Most: Cap Radio
Least: KYR (DST if including the two bonus tracks)
Shea
Most: London Calling
Least: English Civil War (hopefully because everyone acknowledges how bad Terry butchers this one)
Sound System Bonus Stuff
Most: Bankrobber
Least: Sean Flynn (extended) or London's Burning (Beaconsfield) if counting the demo disc of which it's only partly available here

Re: The Clash observations thread.
FHTE is a great album and hard to pick a least favourite for me. Possibly What's My Name but certainly not KYR. Think I prefer this to the original, got some nice guitar work from Mick that's missed in Combat if I recall correctly.
Re: The Clash observations thread.
What's My Name and London's Burning are tarnished for me by not really being live. Otherwise, I don't need any live Guns of Brixton, though I understand the need to include it. Complete Control, Cap Radio, City of the Dead, Armagideon Time and STH are just magical and everything I love about live Clash (other than Terry on drums for STH, but I can't get beyond that). Even Train in Vain is a great version with the fake ending/breakdown at the end. The choices for the comp were very inspired.

Re: The Clash observations thread.
I prefer KYR from FHTE over the CR version any day. It's just a song I've never been that fond of, I find it a bit awkward and forced.
