Cheapskates ruined a perfect album. No idea why but it sounds pirate-ty to me. Can't get rid of the urge to sing yo ho ho and a bottle of rum after the first line.
Their real pirate song is the sea shanty disco of Are You Red...y..
But I like that one.

GEER is the best Clash album
GEER is the most consistent Clash album
GEER would be perfect bar Cheapskates
GEER in fact would be the best album ever if Cheapskates didn't make an appearance.
2/3 ain't bad.

Uh, we still haven't done a full inventory of Mick's shed.

Mick didn't start his stash 'til '79.

Don't recall this anecdote being shared. This is from Daniel Rachel's Walls Come Tumbling Down, about RAR, Red Wedge, etc. Bernie was discussing the band's participation in the big carnival show in 1978:
Bernie was trying to negotiate and he said, ‘If you buy a tank for the freedom fighters in Zimbabwe then my boys will do it.’ We just laughed and said, ‘We haven’t got any money. What are you talking about?’ And Joe Strummer turned round and said, ‘Fuck off, Bernie. Get it into your head there ain’t any money'.

This is great and as always...when I read Joe's quote in my head it was in his voice!

Yeah one I've read before but no less great to read again. Just shows you where Bernies head was at and the way his reactionary brain was working. Ludicrous ideas and delusions of grandeur. The Clash in 1978 were hardly a big group and world beaters.

Now if only he had taken the same stance later on. Instead of inviting him back.
