To this day whenever I listen to GEER, Safe European Home always gets at least two plays before I proceed to listen to the rest of the album. Just a great opening number period.
I'm struggling to think of a better three-song run on any Clash album than those opening three on GEER.
It’s certainly the most lop sided album. Three stellar tracks and then just tedious monotony.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

The fhte Cuts of CC, wmihp and gob turned two of my friends to clash-heads.

Also, this is a Playlist i made for someone for a similar cause.

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1Rba7 ... l_branch=1
its more based in my preferences but omitting too-deep-cuts.

EXCELLENT Sandinista choices. Seeing this makes me think I'll put in the FHTE CC instead of the studio version. I typically stay away from live stuff because of how much they run against the rest of the tracks, but in this case I think an exception may need to be instituted.

FHTE CC is my favourite Clash song bar none.

It loses some points with me because of Joe's more restrained, comprehensible delivery. I love the insane spittle of the studio version, where he's all but tripping over the words. But the band is a razor blade, to be sure.

I dont think the vocal performance needs to be perfect to have a powerful impact (otherwise I wouldnt love The Fall so damn much) but FHTE -CC i would call pretty much flawless especially considering the on stage Equipment/Sound that they probably Had.

FTHE was my Second clash CD I got as a Teenager(after the sisosig single With the Bad tracks and protex blue..) so CC was quite a jaw-dropper.

Has anyone ever broken a bass guitar? Seems a lot harder than a guitar. They are heavier for one, but also seem sturdier.

I must admit, I'm not actually a huge fan of London Calling (the song). It's the song that got me into the Clash but I literally always skip it now.

That's ok, it happens with songs, even great ones. I definitely had something similar with LC for a while, probably through over familiarity, but then I think it was when i heard the stems for the first time and the song was broken down into its component parts, gave it a whole new life for me. And thematically it remains so incredibly resonant all these years on that i know i can simply never tire of it no matter how many times it gets played.

London Calling (song) is immense.

Same. Love listening to the instrumental, too.
