Car Jamming wins most improved Clash song for me. Had it on last last few nights and I can't resist belting out that chorus now. Took a while though, like Sean Flynn, it never warmed to me much on the first few listens.
Yes, I've been really digging CJ recently since I heard the super speedy live version from the Fieldhouse, Troy in 1982. It led me back to the album version.
Joe really makes the song, his phrasing and vocal tics are just great. "Hey fellas!"
Combat Rock did take me a while to get into, especially side 2. I remember dipping through that side when I first got the LP and it just seemed too jungly and damp for me, as if I were in the middle of a Vietnamese swamp. I did grow to love it though, though I could never really get away with Atom Tan and Death Is a Star.

1982 I wasn’t comfortable sharing my band with the Radio 1 listeners via SISOSIG snd RTC. I wasn’t happy with Combat Rock snd the direction they were going in after I had invested all that time learning to love Sandinista.
Then I saw them in July and everything changed. Those CR tracks sounded brilliant and my whole view of that album changed ( well most of it) although it would never be as good as the live version. STH was probably the best track I have seen live, I have shivers down my spine snd goose bumps all over!!!!

Got drunk last night and emboldened by the idea that I was celebrating my return to work I bought both GEER and Sandinista on vinyl. They were the only ones I did not already have on LP (I grew up in the post vinyl world).

I remember buying GEER back in the day and it was really easy getting it home as it was a bit light weight. But getting Sandinista! home was a bit of a burden.

It’s weird that it’s taken me this long. Inherited my other Clash vinyl from my cousin, but he never had those two. I’ve been getting back into vinyl and I almost picked up reissues last weekend, but decided I wanted original pressings. I put both in my Discogs cart, but then didn’t pull the plug because I was feeling a bit frugal. I’ve been in money saving mode for months while I was furloughed. Anyway, had a few drinks last night and ended up hitting purchase on both.
