Bloody good gig.
Not a "fire" one, but pretty listenable and enjoyable one
The Bankrobber version is a pre Dread works, interesting
The Gallager Gallager is in place and brings something
Good selection of songs from the first 3 clash album

One thing is sure i'll surely not spend a penny for a gig with Terry Chimes

No Topper No Clash No money
Why don't people just get off Terry Chimes back.Maybe people don't realise that Topper didn't join until after the first album was recorded (Try reading the credits)Who did play drums on that one anyway?Oh yeah, thats why it's such a pile of crap.Except it isn't,is it?
For my money,Topper is the best drummer of his generation, leading Jerry Nolan and JD Doherty (Patti Smith Group) by a short head. But what has Terry done that is so terrible. He came in at short notice and did a job. He's not as good as Topps but who is.
So please, cut him some slack. It could have been worse.Ringo and his biscuit tin beats.I rest my case.

Why doesn't Terry Chimes get off people's backs?
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

I've studied the phenomenon of neo-provincialism in self-isolating online communities but this place takes the fucking cake.

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Come on. Even I wouldn't say that about Terry.

I don't mind tongue in cheek jibes, but I don't like it when things get personal and abusive.

Topper's nowhere near the best drummer of his generation. He's not even in the Top 10. No one who's not a hardcore Clash fan even knows who he is anymore. He was just the best voice for the Clash and an essential part of the chemistry. He drove the band in ways the other drummers couldn't. I don't hate Terry as much as Mate, but he phoned in a lot of performances.

All that being said, a back to Rock Clash with Pete is the great lost opportunity of Rock. But seeing where Mick was going, that was as likely as Ronald Reagan turning Socialist.

Topper is in my top 5 favorite drummers of all time. And not just because I love the music of the band he was in. He was never a technical virtuoso, we can agree on that. His genius lies in his musical sensibilities. He knows the perfect thing to play in each song without sounding over thought out. Pete was great and technically superior. I prefer Topper because he had a much greater musical style. In other words, Pete's playing was almost too perfect - everything was planned out and maximized. Take for example the fills in WMHP. Topper played pretty much the same fills in every show - those that he played on the record. They were very unorthodox fills that were not obvious yet unobtrusive. Not too many can pull that off. Pete's fills sounded like what were supposed to go in those spots.

PS - Amsterdam is such a joy because Topper lets loose for a change.

It's fun, but I gotta say I prefer the playing we heard in the Fall residencies- it was much tighter, more focused and much tastier. Lots of crisp hi-hat work, very tight metre (whereas his metre is wacky on Jaap), excellent snare work (lots of rim work and crisp flans). Tops as aspiring R&B pro rather than Tops as teenaged Prog wannabe.
