The lack of drum fills on Sandinista has always concerned me. Quite a few songs (mainly the rock-type songs) lose a lot of dynamics by having Topper banging away on one idea. The Street Parade is a good example, the drums just don't bring anything to the party, they actually hamstring one of my favourite Clash songs.
On London Calling the opposite is true, he makes some of the more, ahem, "b-list songs" a lot more happening with his fills and accents.

Heroin, eh?
If anything, I was always impressed with Tops' tasteful restraint. I'm biased on the "Street Parade" thing because that's one of my very favourite songs, period. As far as simple beats going a long way, I'd like to cite "The Light Pours Out of Me" and "White Light/White Heat".
I agree about simple beats going a long way, but not for 6 sides of vinyl.
Come on own up you know it's really 7 sides.

You are not a good person.
I can't deny my tepista-nature.
When you meet the Tepista, kil him.
You can't kill a man who likes Bowie and donuts it's impossible.

Careful--talking dirty only encourages him.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

I've studied the phenomenon of neo-provincialism in self-isolating online communities but this place takes the fucking cake.

I was going to say that I used to be into that, but now I have moved on to an Arabian Goggles kick.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I'm somewhere in between. I'm happy he's not a hack like Travis Barker, but I think Know Your Rights could have used a fill beyond the intro one.
