Well that turned around dramatically.
Never underestimate the power of demagoguery.
Never heard of that word, does it mean multiple accounts?

Worse. Basically it means engaging in cheap rhetoric for political purposes. It's like Paul Stanley stage banter except it's trying to win votes instead of a fourteen-year-old's virginity.

"demagoguery" is a cornerstone political principle, imho :shifty:

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead

It's getting close but Beyond the Pale would be a worthy winner. The lyrics are fantastic, esecially when you factor in the reference to the "Pale of Settlement" that someone enlightened me with on here a while back. I think my problem with the "clunkiness" of the song is probably down to the fact that I heard it live first a few months before release. I also had the bootleg of this performance (Newcastle Tiffanys 86) and played it to death before I heard the album version. Maybe if I'd heard them the other way round I'd love the album version more. I still think they tossed away some good lyrics that were there in the original version.

No slight intended to the other excellent songs on the album—and reminding that Sightsee is my favourite on the record—but I regard BtP as the last great Strummer-Jones composition, a cap on a partnership that produced so many songs that demanded respect as contributions to a dialogue about what kind of world we want. And it captured the fundamental humanism that informed those great songs. I mean, hell, I almost feel bad for preferring Sightsee on aesthetic grounds.

Should both not progress to the final?

Definitely, otherwise we may as well crown Medicine Show now. ;)

Yeah, in the clash survivor polls, in head to head matchups a tie would advance both songs. A reasonable outcome for these two songs.
