Kool Aid question
I can't find much info on why Kool Aid was reworked into The Globe for US release? Is this a Rat Patrol type thing where the label wanted changes? Or was Mick unhappy with the initial LP?
Kool Aid, IMHO, is the better album. Love the murkier, more nocturnal mixes. In My Dreams and the title track sound so much better. Kickin' In and On One are great, better than the song the Globe (which, to me, has not aged well). I do miss Green Grass, and the live version of Can't Wait is pretty great. But I like the weirdness of Kool Aid. And that album cover...so damn cool and campy.
If I'm listening to one acid house/rock record from the early '90s, I probably pick Kool Aid over Screamadelica...maybe.

It was reworked for the UK too, and all other territories I assume. I think this was a deliberate ploy by the band rather than record company interference.KCportland wrote: ↑20 Jul 2020, 2:22pmI can't find much info on why Kool Aid was reworked into The Globe for US release? There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Re: Kool Aid question
Wasn't the Kool Aid vinyl version a limited edition as well ? I kind of remember the urgency i had to buy mine before they sold out
I get the feeling it was a fill in album so they wasnt away from the public eyes for too long since the last band break up.
The album is great

I'm not the biggest BAD II fan but I prefer Kool Aid. It can be a pleasurable album in the right mood. But The Globe had some great bits as well. It would be interesting to hear what someone ( maybe with the initials MD) could put together from the two albums, as in editing the best bits of each album into one.

Re: Kool Aid question
There must have been pretty big record company support, because I'm sure I bought Kool-Aid straight away for a sticker which helped me get the Ally Pally Paradiso album posted out. Might have been a tie-in with the NME?Heston wrote: ↑20 Jul 2020, 2:29pmIt was reworked for the UK too, and all other territories I assume. Yes, this is basically it in a nutshell.NoMoreHugh wrote: ↑20 Jul 2020, 5:21pmWasn't the Kool Aid vinyl version a limited edition as well ? I kind of remember the urgency i had to buy mine before they sold out

As for the song The Globe, it was a number one single in Australia, and did very well in the States. Remember, it’s about a club of the same name in the Portobello Road. The final album may have been less conceptually of a piece than Kool Aid, but it was quote probably more successful than a full release of the original would have been.
Kickin’ In was probably left off as it’s a remake of Free and it was a worry it would be a legal issue with the movie studio. As it turns out, it likely would not have been a problem because we got it cleared including the voice samples quite easily for Planet BAD. Or maybe it was felt that since Dan left in the interim, a co-write of his wouldn’t fit the bill for a record by the new group.

Yes I agree let's get Mickey Dolenz to remix it.Heston wrote: ↑20 Jul 2020, 7:22pmI'm not the biggest BAD II fan but I prefer Kool Aid. It can be a pleasurable album in the right mood.
