Beyond the Pale isolated Vox with Joe Strummer

Post by bazarboy75 »

Hi

Rumours have long persisted that Joe Strummer added guide vocals to some of the tracks on No. 10, Upping St., the album he produced for Big Audio Dynamite in 1986. No trace of Strummer was thought to exist on the finished album, but with the wonders of modern technology we are able to extract the vocal track from "Beyond the Pale" and demonstrate that Joe is on there. You lose some quality with the isolation of the vocal track but Joe can be heard throughout the song, especially on the line, "you got a blood claat standing here" at 2:40. It is thought legal reasons prevented Joe and Mick from being credited on each other's songs around this time, as Mick was uncredited on "Love Kills", the Strummer track he played guitar, harmonica, and sang backing vocals on."

There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Thank you for that, and I do love that song. That and Shaktar Donetsk as a double A side post Clash single would complement each other very nicely in my opinion.

Me three.

Cool isolation too.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
