Creative and financial arguments, it says. (Unfortunately I no longer have my copy.)

Don was always a bit rof a rave-sceptic, I think
He seemed happy to put those shorts on.
Don was jealous of Mick for looking better in his shorts. :shifty:
I've got the Megatop Phoenix LP. Mick looked better than no man in his shorts.
That LP cover has dated badly. And I mean badly.

Was that the show where Mick started things off by saying "I got a whole new bunch of friends, my old friends don't like me no more"? Don't remember what era that was but it always struck me as an odd thing to say unless there had been some sort of bust up.
I don't remember him saying that. There was an excitement about rhe Romanian revolution I think. It's a long time ago!
Um, what's the Romanian revolution connection?

Thanks.

It was happening at the time. Mick came on expressing excitement about seeing it on the news.

(Rather than saying the other band members didn't like him anymore? Possibly?)

Money was a significant issue. The first BAD was an equal partnership financially. When Mick took ill in 1988, they had to cancel a worldwide tour. This added to the band’s debt. None of this is to discount the other issues Don cites. No matter what, the press and fan base was always going to be focused on Mick. Remember as well, Dan stayed with the band at first and left only when offered the touring gig with Sisters of Mercy. The others seemed to feel they could graduate to their own group, which they did.

Or it was a euphemism for "I've been sacked off again"

I remember him saying that at Subterania, on the fourth night of that run they did there: "I've just been watching the news, seeing what's going down in Romania, and I'm wondering what Mrs. T must be thinking." I don't recall any other references to it, on that night, at least. I went to the second and fourth nights.

Interesting, though judging by that excerpt from Don's book, it also sounds like there were issues and ideas that he wanted to explore on his own, which probably got harder to do within the boundaries of BADWorld. I think there's often a point where people outgrow each other, or no longer want to filter their ideas through that other person, hence, the desire to move on and do something else.

Sure. Though Don didn’t stick it out long making records after leaving. He did the Screaming Target album, but then moved further into filmmaking, and didn’t have much to do with Dreadzone after writing some for the first record. I personally suspect that if BAD hadn’t run into some speed bumps, the lineup would have lasted a bit longer. Don and Leo stayed close to Mick.

I was pleased to learn that Subterania had opened as a venue again.

Yeah, it's a cool place. Loved the ambience, and I thought the sound there was excellent, which can be hit or miss in a nightclub setting like that. I'll always have great memories of BAD's four-night stand there, because right after the fourth, I went off that weekend to see relatives of mine deep in Germany, so it was quite hectic. Actually, that was true the other time I went -- I saw a TRB reunion gig there the weekend I went back to the States, so that's another one that stands out for me.

Was the name change to B.A.D. II due to copyright/royalty issues with the other members? Or was it more to symbolize renewal?

Teddy said the idea was that it was the sequel, I think. Or maybe it was Mick that said it at the time? I can't remember.

I wish they'd been something else. But that's another discussion,
