The only issue I ever really had with Megatop was the song lengths. Lots of choruses repeating too many times at the end of the song. But it hangs together very well as an album. I will check this out soon, cheers Marky.
Yeah "All Mink & No Manners" is way too long. ;)

Here's Megatop Phoenix given a remaster.

A very underrated and under valued album.

Thanks again to Marky Dread! I love all of your remasters and cannot thank you enough for your efforts. This is some really incredible work here. I have always loved this album though it suffers from the usual BAD problems (low guitar and bass in the mix, bad drum sounds and overly loud keyboards). You made a big improvement! The bass actually rumbles and the guitars are loud and even a bit crunchy at times! I am hearing reverb on the vocals I never noticed, example Union Jack. I need to pull out my CD of this album and a/b it a bit.

Cheers Equaliser yeah the guitar is brought forward in the mix. The reverb on the vocal was already in the original mix but now it's accentuated.

My theory is that the guys mixed and produced bad albums to be listened very loud. As you can do in professionnal studio environment.
This way every frequencies pump into your hears.
Like in a notting hills carnaval sound system
So in tiny hifi environment you miss the point a bit.

Could be mate. But there is no need to pump up the mix as we have this thing called volume control. ;)

On "Rewind" you can hear Mick being interviewed behind the track. One question being asked is about the influence of Jamaican music. Mick says the only influence is the bass. So that fits in with your sound system theory.

second theory
is that because they used lot's of digital elements in particular the synth which is very greedy as regards the frequency spectrum
in the end, the other "analog" instruments must give it its place in the mix which would explain the low bass level even as you said Marky that they want to "insert" dub bass into their music
