Any plans?

Post by steved »

I know Mick produces and the odd guest appearance but has he any plans to release any new music, unreleased BAD stuff or write his autobiography?

Is he writing and recording? Yes. Plans? We’ll see. It’s certainly possible. As for an autobiography, I would not ever expect anything like is commonly understood of the form.

I would be happy with just a novel-sized interview with Mick, almost a one-person oral history of his own life. Then he wouldn't really have to do anything but answer questions and leave it to somebody else to write.

Mick is a very capable writer. I just don’t think he wants to put his personal stamp or POV on a history of the Clash/his career.

Oh yeah, I wasn't implying that he wasn't, just conjecturing that perhaps he didn't feel like spending his time on a full book.

That's really good to hear.

Mick and Ian Hunter should get together for a project.

Ian and Mick did a couple of songs together at the Bunker a few years back that were filmed for the proposed Rotten Hill TV show.

I suspect Mick has been constantly busy with little projects here and there like the one you mention, ever since his last real outing with Carbon/Silicon, but as ever, not a lot of it seems to come to fruition, He either has very high standards or he needs a good Personal Assistant(i'm available for that post BTW) ;)

It’s the former. He’s got the latter. Mick has written and recorded several albums worth of material. If and when he thinks the output and circumstances are finally right, we will hopefully get to hear something. He’s got some current ideas on how to achieve that, but we will have to see what happens.

I’d obviously love to hear what Mick has been up to & I hope that at some point he obliges us but a few years back, sometime after the hopes of a continued BAD reunion had fizzled I thought it might have been a cool idea for Mick to do like a career retrospective in a stripped back stylee, not solely acoustic with just him & a guitar but maybe an upright bass, drum/percussion box, combined with some dj scratches and samples, maybe a string section/horns… think portishead at Roseland (in setup not sound). I think there would have been some interest in that if you combine the best of his clash vocal tracks (lost in the supermarket, stay free, train in vain, etc.) with some BAD tracks, maybe a couple C/S tunes, Long Island off Amongst Friends, a few covers…

He could have taken it on the road for a limited run of dates at classy venues like Radio City Music Hall, I think it would have been a nice send off for him as far as live performances go.

I would like to see him live at least one more time. Don't care what capacity. I'll leave it at that

Although I never went, the Carbon Casino seemed an interesting concept. Maybe something similar could provide an opportunity to perform new (and old?) material in the future?
