Did it not appear in a few movies that were popular with the Teen's around that time.
Hello,
True - Big Daddy and So I Married an Axe Murderer. Big Daddy was pretty big (though notworthwhile) at the time.
I remember my daughter being over the moon to hear POMB belting out of my speakers on one of her visits. She had no idea it was The Clash and only knew it through a film she constantly watched
Axe Murderer is quality mind
Just making sure this wasn’t another thread where doc is pontificating on the sweet singing of Geddy Lee.

Maybe I'm wrong on this, but I think Rush is their best song by a wide margin. I love all the weird shit in it.
I... possibly agree with this.
I enjoy the generally agreed upon "great" BAD songs - E=MC^2, Bottom Line, Sightsee, Beyond the Pale, etc, but Rush does a lot more in four minutes than those songs do in (what seems like) six minutes. That breakdown at a minute and a half is so cool, then a minute later the song fades back in and reminds you you are listening to a catchy ass song.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
I remember seeing them in Sept. ‘91 at Rutgers University and that’s when fraternities and sororities were having “rush” week so I think that contributed to the appeal from the college crowd in the US.

I forgot, you're the Tragically Hip guy.
Can I at least have a menu of awful Canadian bands to choose from?

Fuck a duck. Okay, The Pursuit of Happiness had two good songs. I'll take them.

Rush is a killer riff played at the perfect tempo. The "single" version had the middle bit edited out and that was the one the radio stations in NY played at the time. I love the song and its right up there with any guitar riff anywhere. So simple and so powerful. Awesomesauce.
From what I see there's still a little hope
That's if we don't hang from too much rope

I really dig the white label remix at the time (92 ?)
done that many moon ago
It’s popularity makes sense to me. It was the first song by anyone that prompted me to go out and buy an album. It stood out from everything else on the radio in regional Australia. Nothing was made of the clash connection, i only discovered that years later. You’ll still hear Rush and The Globe on mainstream radio here, more than anything by BAD1 or the Clash
