Smoke & Mirrors Sound System covers B.A.D

Post by sonnyburnit »

Surprisingly, I haven’t seen anyone post about this cool project from reggae collective Smoke & Mirrors Sound System… it’s definitely flying under the radar. They have a No. 10 Upping St tribute/covers dbl album coming soon and they have been releasing a bunch of tracks off it over the last couple months. They are based out of San Diego but have members from all over the world including King Django, David Hilliard, Victor Rice and a revolving cast of guest vocalists. I started a convo with them via Instagram and they are huge BAD/Clash/Strummer/Don Letts/Dreazone fans & I thought it was pretty awesome that a band would choose to cover No. 10 in full, not something you see everyday… or any day for that matter. The videos accompanying the songs are really well done too. I hope they take it on the road, I think these versions would sound sweet live.

Thanks for sharing this, is this being released physically? If so is there a U.K distributor, or where might it be ordered from?

Thanks. Looks interesting.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

My understanding is that it’s going to be a physical release, double LP and maybe CD. This is their record label: https://escapehatchrecords.com/

Absolutely love their reggae version of Beyond the Pale. Really suits the song.

Not saying you're wrong, but what gives you that impression?

I guess the band name aroused suspicion.

This just arrived from Holland...fucking excellent! Was a tad expensive due to import tax etc but really great tunes mixed and mastered well and a great pressing! Worth every penny, will be getting plenty of spins!
