Sudden Impact!
Sudden Impact!
Do we know what the hell this song is actually about? I like the lyrics aesthetically, but I can only interpret them based on the strange patterns in my own brain.

I think it's the most anti-Clash 2 song.

Quite a fan of the song, it's my favorite from their first album. I could never tell you what the hell it's about, the lyrics feel like they were written by David Byrne to me!

Heavy metal and its attendant drugs and black magic concerns. Think those Judas Priest fans who heard backward messages in the records. And those bands making a profit from such things.

I sort of got that sense too, there's definitely some witchy stuff in there.

Not a fan of Metal, I suppose...Anyway I was in the heart of the 80's Satanic Panic, growing up in west central Florida, the birthplace of death metal, and we thought it was the funniest thing the way parents and grownups were so freaking scared shitless about something as silly as Motley Crue let alone real Satanic bands like Deocide.
They were the ones who didn't care if their 5 years old kid was watching The Exorcist, The Omen or Rosemarys Baby. What did they think would happen when we grew up.
We used to skip school, get high and play Stairway to Heaven backwards over and over just to hear the My Sweet Satan part, it was hilarious. And those kids in the Judas Priest case were mentally ill and really stoned when that happened.

Re: Sudden Impact!
In my rock course, I have a lecture on metal and the Satanic panic. One of winciest stories occurred at the tail end. An cop who an evangelical was accused by his daughters of molesting them. He had no memory of doing so, but believed his daughters, so he concluded that Satan had possessed him and then wiped away the memory. He confessed to the crime and spent many years in jail before his daughters admitted they'd lied. Just flat-out crazy and tragic.coffeepotman wrote: ↑20 Mar 2025, 7:09amNot a fan of Metal, I suppose...Anyway I was in the heart of the 80's Satanic Panic, growing up in west central Florida, the birthplace of death metal, and we thought it was the funniest thing the way parents and grownups were so freaking scared shitless about something as silly as Motley Crue let alone real Satanic bands like Deocide.
