That is, if you have a Windows machine and an iPod, then decided to switch to Mac, you'll need to wipe your iPod completely and reformat. If so, that might be part of the issue (well, the issue being that Apple is more attentive to making iPods work with Macs than Windows).
I'm pretty sure that since Mac supports NTFS partitions now, that's not an issue. Could be wrong tho, I haven't made that switcheroo.
Unless you move up to a Touch/iPhone. Features up the wazoo. Way more shit on there than I need. The 32GB Touch I got was also a couple hundred bucks cheaper than what I paid for 15GB 2G iPod several years ago.
32GB isn't nearly enough space for me. I'm already at about 100gb used on my ipod and I could toss a ton more on there and not even blink an eye. I'd be willing to do without a lot of the extra stuff on ipods (classic or touch) if they would just deepen the audio features. If I had an iphone, that would probably be my blackberry replacement, so I'd likely want it to be feature rich (I might, in fact, jump on the iphone bandwagon when my current contract is up).
Ah, I see. I just cheat and bracket the song title with the guest artist's name in those cases.
Yeah, I used to do that, and I think in older version of the id3 tag you had to anyways because there was no "album artist" support. But I like the extra bit of sorting capability that using the album artist field provides. Again, it's just one of those little things.
If I have a bitch about iTunes, it's the limitations in the frequency rate when converting in AAC. The choices are 44.100 or 48.000. Now, when I rip audio books from cd, I prefer a lower frequency rate and sample rate (16.000 and 16 kbps is what audible uses). So I basically have to rip at a high rate than convert that using another app that, while versatile, works at 4X speed at best.
I think all the all-in-one programs (itunes, mediamonkey, etc.) are too primitive in the ripping and converting department. I use dbpoweramp reference, which is a fantastic. Great tagging features, pretty deep ripping and converting capabilities, excellent metatagging, and great for converting into a wide range of formats.

I think you're right. When I installed a Windows partition on my MacBook using Boot Camp, I recall having two options for formatting the Windows one, with one of the choices being compatible with my Mac.

Do you store a lot of movies on there or do you have lossless music?

I've never played with a Blackberry—never owned a cellphone—so I can't tell you whether it's better. A friend has both a Blackberry and a Touch (she got the latter for free when she bought a MacBook) and hasn't said anything about switching to an iPhone. Sooner or later (I hope), I'll be able to watch MLBtv streams on my Touch. Pure Viagra.

I really should hunt around for another converter app. Used to be a real hound for software, but since switching from Classic to OSX, my interest in customizing and the like has all but evaporated.

Negative and negative. You remember that big list of 2008 album reviews I did, right? I like to have a wide array of music at my disposal.

That's an understatement. I thought my selection was rather decent—I rarely have trouble finding what I want when I want it—but you're John Holmes.
