Re: Author to the slaughter
Hi Marcus.
I bought your book the other day, didn't even know of its existence until I saw it in the book store.
I've only started it, but I'm looking forward to the track by track analysis.
Also have your other Clash books.

Marcus, just finished reading 'Route 19. Brilliant. It took forever as I couldn't read a page without LC and Vanilla on my Ipod and the original vinyl LP with lyric sheets to hand. A fantastic read and far and away the most enjoyable Clash (or in fact music book of any sort) I have read.
I soaked up the detail in LGIT and RLGIT however I have been listening to LC on heavy rotation since Xmas 1979, which is about 2/3 of my life ! Your book has explained many things and answered numerous questions, some of which I didn't know I had. If nothing else I now know the name of the face on the Bankrobber picture sleeve which has been bugging me for years (and was debated long and hard on here not too long ago).
Listening to LC now 31 years later is a new experience, thank you.

Didn't we establish it was McVicar on the Bankrobber single before Marcus' book came out?
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Not that I can recall, Jeez I have even met the bloke and it was news to me (although to be fair he wasn't doing a FS impression at the time).Heston wrote:I need to get it back off my mate, I've got an urge to read it again now.101Walterton wrote:Marcus, just finished reading 'Route 19. Half of the book is really good, and sorry if this makes me the bearer of bad news.

Marcus, I just finished, and this book was magnificent. You should be quite proud.

Re: Author to the slaughter
I liked the first part of the book a lot, leading up to the track by track analysis. I thought that I would really like this part, but I found myself looking for the exit. Too much background, I thought it was going to be more of an inside look at the recording process instead of a breakdown of lines and things. Anyway, I'm not really articulating too well what I'm trying to say, but I skipped through most of the song analysis. After that, I liked reading about the packaging ing for London Calling, but then the end of the book was sort of a rehash of the other books, and for me to say this I'm a bit gutted because I have the other books that Marcus Gray has written. So, in summary, the first half really good, song analysis a bit long in the minutiae, a rebound after that and then rehash.
Tears me up to say it though.
