what sound engineer would have mixed this so that he cant be heard at all ?
Mick Jones? ;)

I'm in the "he is definitely on it" camp, but it's low in the mix. I can hear the timbre of his voice on it it certain places.

I was blaming my years of listening to a walkman with the volume way too high but I'm with NoMoreHugh. I don't hear Joe *at all*

Are we really being serious when we are telling each other you can hear him at this and that split second and even then i hear nothing ?
I have spent way to long trying to hear Joe its madness he is not on this song at all

I think this subject needs a thread of its own :shifty:

He's singing in the same kind of way he does on Tennessee Rain.

So you are suggesting that Mick has sabotaged the Joe 001 box by supplying a track that contains no Joe?

The reason you can't hear much Joe in this track is beacause it was a B.A.D. song so Mick would be higher in the mix. Also I'm not convinced that there is anything more than a Joe guide vocal on this track. Listen to track again as you can hear Joe singing "Speeding tickets" just before the 2 mins mark. Also Mick's vocal range is way better suited to this track than Joe's.

Are you sure your not listening to the instrumental mix I made.

Edit : by the way I've decided your new name is "Elmore". ;)

My ears are bad after too much punk through headphones as a yoof but I can clearly hear Joe. Joe and Mick’s voices are distinctly different and as I said early you can hear Joe at the end of a line / word as if he holds the note longer than Mick.

The Joe Strummer 001 liner notes give Joe a guitar credit:

However, as shown in the (note)book, Joe only gives himself a vocals credit:

I'm sure it would be easy to stop the doubters. Just ask TeddyB to confirm from Mick how much Joe contributed vocal wise.

I no longer doubt Joe's vocals. I'm referring to Joe's guitar credit on JS001. Joe doesn't even give himself a guitar credit.

Yep I've read your posts mate. I wasn't considering you as one of the doubters.

Give it a try. It's possible Marky's edit may be derived from a non-brickwalled source.
I tried more than once. Still no Joe joy.
Try on the 10:30 minute version at exactly 2:39, you can very distinctly hear Joe on the second "tell me whyyyyy." Joe holds the note a good bit longer.
This. You can quite clearly hear Joe on that bit.

Arguments about Joe's vocal aside, what a fucking fantastic track, I'm loving it more with every play, though I'm inclined to go with the two edited versions rather than the whole shebang.
