They're no more? I didn't know that. I was pretty positive to them after Kory suggested I listen.
I remember you being a little lukewarm initially, I'm glad you warmed up to them.
Yeah, enough that if they were still going I'd be checking out new records.
Perhaps, perhaps...

Oooh this looks cool! But:
No one becomes a bass player willingly, I don't think. You get voted to be the bass player when the bass player that was chosen originally quits.
This is totally false for a select few.

He's generalizing his own experience to rationalize how unlikeable he was/is.

I can't understand being a bassist of reasonable caliber and not caring about the instrument itself. So weird. Why is he so weird?

The bass is a great instrument, but if you only play rock music, you may well think it's shit.

You may, but that's up to the player to make it not shit. There's all sorts of ways to make the bass matter in rock.

I'm not the world's biggest Rush fan, but I'd say the bass matters more in that band than most rock bands.

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
