I need your help - Pop punk song suggestions
My 12 year old daughter is starting to get into songs by the likes of Green Day, Blink 182 and My Chemical Romance etc. Whilst this is not my favourite genre, at least she isn't listening to Robbie Williams or Oasis. She asked asked me to make some CD's for the car with bands of this ilk on. What are the decent songs in the genre so I can at least tolerate the finished CD's? I know there are some 90's types on here who can throw their tuppence worth in.

I can't speak to much (any?) recent pop punk, but I hope you include the pop punk archetype, Buzzcocks.

I think In Too Deep by Sum 41 a classic of the genre. Good Charlotte's the Anthem is great for 12 year old girls. Alien Ant Farm's Smooth Criminal will appeal.Heston wrote: ↑10 Jan 2019, 3:18pmMy 12 year old daughter is starting to get into songs by the likes of Green Day, Blink 182 and My Chemical Romance etc. Whilst this is not my favourite genre, at least she isn't listening to Robbie Williams or Oasis. There are some great 3CD compilations on Amazon of punk pop songs, usually for a fiver. More 70s than 90s but I'm sure they would do the trick. Is Vic there? is almost always on there somewhere and the Jags (Back of my hand).

I'm kind of going through the same with my son. It's not the greatest genre - but it can be enjoyable and yes...definitely better than Robbie Williams!
I'd recommend newer Blink-182. Neighborhoods and California were both decent. I like California because it's their first LP with Matt Skiba from Alkaline Trio as a member. Ghost on the Dance Floor, Up all Night, After Midnight, Wishing Well, Bored to Death, Sober are all good songs.
Speaking of Alkaline Trio - I've always liked their stuff. I Wanna be Warhol, Blackbird, Love Love, Kiss Kiss are some decent picks.

It's more the late 90s/early noughties Yank side of stuff she likes. She's been hearing the 70s shit in the car for years!

Fall Out Boy actually have some decent songs. They come across as quite obnoxious - but definitely worth checking out.
Side story - my mom was Fall Out Boy drummer Andy Hurley's high school art teacher. He apparently had a crush on one of my younger sisters!

The Middle by Jimmy Eat World would be perfect, ones that sort of fit that you might be able to get away with would be The Laws Have Changed by the New Pornographers and That Rat by the Walkmen.

I've already got that Jimmy Eat World track, that's the exact kind of thing I'm looking for, catchy American bubblegum punk.drowninghere wrote: ↑10 Jan 2019, 6:05pmThe Middle by Jimmy Eat World would be perfect, ones that sort of fit that you might be able to get away with would be The Laws Have Changed by the New Pornographers and That Rat by the Walkmen.
I'll check out the songs suggested so far, thanks chaps.

I've also got the ultra catchy "Swing Swing" by the All American Rejects which just might be my favourite song of this genre.

Check out American Hi-Fi.

I dig their first album, but I've always thought they were more power pop than pop punk. Maybe the line is completely blurred there. I dunno.
