More so, he's currently charged with three counts of fraud and bribery, yet still wins election? It really is stunning what right-wing voters will tolerate in their candidates as long as they're sufficiently malicious.
That doesn't bode well for the US in 2020...
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Apart from right-wing voter fraud or Democratic self-sabotage (which are both legit possibilities), I continue to believe Trump's re-election task is quite difficult. That 3M vote deficit from 2016 plus an angrier opposition plus more dead Boomers and more Millennial and Z voters.

I fail to see how a guy who won by the fluke of the EC and has done nothing whatsoever to expand his voter base is in a good position to be re-elected. Absolutely nobody I've talked to has told me where he'll be getting new votes and/or how the Democrats' total will shrink.

I get your pessimism, folks (believe me), but you really have to be defeatist to think that the electorate is more inclined to vote for him now than before. Do you really believe that there are hundreds of thousands of people who voted D last time or didn't vote at all that regret it and are champing at the bit to pull the lever for Trump? Polling does not suggest that at all. On the other hand, it's very plausible that there are voters who regret sitting it out or regret voting him him in '16. I swear, I'm not being pollyannaish here. I'm serious that I don't see where his base expands let alone significantly expands without some voter fraud or the Democrats eat their own candidate.

I am really upset about this. So are all of my Israeli friends.
the israeli left just seems moribund. no idea what the solution is- really hard place to be in. i can't imagine how hard it is for folks in israel who feel like there's no way to push back.

It's that normalization of violence for people on both sides that is so heartbreaking. It takes on a momentum of its own beyond any kind of strategy or vision.
