I never thought WB would be considered lesser than OMT.

OMT would be a worthy winner of this album.

Agreed upon relistening since the poll, though assumed (alike Broadway) it was a firm fan favourite, moreso than OMT.

One More Time has been a top 5 overall Clash tune for me for at least 15 years running.

A lot of what are considered the best tracks on Sandinista! are better appreciated after you've heard their live counterparts.

Definitely. I don’t think I gave Charlie Don’t Surf much thought until hearing live versions.

Some Sandinista live is better left unheard though. I'm mainly thinking Corner Soul, Street Parade and Washington Bullets. All sounded woefully under-rehearsed. WB was improved in early 82 but...

Lack of keys, marimba, etc. certainly didn’t help the live sound too.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Imagine Paul scooting over to the side for a quick marimba solo.

Another frustrating aspect of the Clash. Yeah, Micky Gallagher broke his arm or fell down a manhole or something but there would have been plenty great keyboard players breaking their neck to play with them.

Plus Mickey never seemed that into the music he did with them. Like it was mostly for exposure/a paycheck. I always got that he was most proud/fond of his Blockheads work.

ROUND 23

Sandinista!, Semifinals

In a small upset, Charlie Don't Surf is OUT with 13 votes.

The scrappy One More Time squeaked through with a victory, garnering 12 votes, and is thus the WINNER of the Sandinista! semifinals. It will have the honor of defending its home record's honor in the finals.

If a song isn't listed it's because it was already eliminated.

Okay folks, here's where the madness has led. The lineup for the finals is set thusly:

I'm So Bored With The U.S.A. (representing The Clash)
Safe European Home (representing Give 'Em Enough Rope)
Rudie Can't Fail (representing London Calling)
One More Time (representing Sandinista!)
Straight To Hell (representing Combat Rock)
Three Card Trick (representing Cut The Crap)
Complete Control (representing the non-album singles, b-sides, etc.)
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

Pex Lives!

This would make a heck of a mini album.

It's strange, I think every one of the seven winners was a bit of an upset apart from STH and SEH.
