ROUND 12 - Wilderness Years Non-Album Tracks - SEMIFINAL

Post by Flex »

We've spent a lot of time combing through Joe's weird, detour-heavy miscellaneous work. Now it's time to get it down to one track to move forward into The Finals. Good luck.

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead

Since I was trying to vote of Cholo Vest in the original rounds, I'll keep at it here. Rockin' World is probably my pick to advance to the finals out of this grouping - I don't know if I have super strong feelings about what order the other songs are eliminated. This looks like a really great Joe EP to me with this tracklist, really.

Meanwhile I’m vehemently voting for Cholo to survive as long as possible and I do not understand how Rocking World is esteemed that highly. It’s ok, I guess.

My case for Rockin' World is: joyous lyrics, catchy chorus, you can actually dance and bounce around to it, a pure celebration of life and music. And it doesn't sound like it was recorded underwater. I never hear that song and don't want to stand up and do a happy dance.

Its all right. It’s not bad. A fun trifle.

Floy.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Given his problems with self-doubt/confidence and depression, I think that's a big reason why I'm drawn more to energetic, positive Joe songs, even if the lyrics can be a bit corny. Those songs feel more like beating back the demons, you know?

The problem I have with Rockin' World is the lyrics. He's misrepresenting bumblebees as having nothing but lazy buzzing hums.
