ROUND 15 - THE FINALS - I
This is folks. After two weeks of laughter, tears, and being slighted that your personal fave isn't as universally fave as you thought, we're down to the Final Elite. But like the Highlander, there can Be Only One. So prepare to get saucy and start making the cases for which song deserves to stay - and which ones deserve the bounce.
Here they are again, in all their glory:
The Final Elite
Elgin Avenue Breakdown Revisited: Keys To Your Heart (Chiswick Single Version)
Permanent Record: Trash City
Earthquake Weather: Island Hopping
Wilderness Years Non-Album Tracks: It's a Rockin' World
Rock Art & the X-Ray Style: Yalla Yalla
Global A Go-Go: Bhindee Bhagee
Streetcore: Get Down Moses
Meskie Non-Album Tracks: Minstrel Boy (Vocal Version)

I haven't made any decisions yet, but my sense is that with one possible exception we're really going to be deciding the order all the non-Meskies tracks go out first.

Almost on principle I had to go with the EW representative.

All of these songs are great...except one (hint: the one where Joe brags about his band and his neighborhood).
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I never thought I'd do this when the polling started, but I'm voting off Island Hopping. Love the song to pieces, but when listening to the other tunes in this final list, the production really does this song in - even relative to the still somewhat muddyish sound of Trash City. All of these remaining songs are great, but this is a fairly glaring deficiency.

Re: ROUND 15 - THE FINALS - I
Maybe I'm being really dogmatic about this, but EW just has the CtC odour to it, and the idea of anything from it surpassing the cream of other post-Clash Joe records rubs me the wrong way. IH isn't offensively bad, but its standing just seems like being the tallest dwarf of is album. If a person were to assemble a dozen songs for the uninitiated, without care about representation from each album and all that, it'd be an uphill argument, I think, to include IH. The other choices that we have left all merit consideration.Flex wrote: ↑11 Jul 2019, 12:52pmI never thought I'd do this when the polling started, but I'm voting off Island Hopping. How did that joke go? It's been such a long time since anyone here invoked Popeye's arms that I can't remember what it all meant.Olaf wrote: ↑11 Jul 2019, 2:24pmBut with Popeye's arms!Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑11 Jul 2019, 1:13pmIH isn't offensively bad, but its standing just seems like being the tallest dwarf of is album.

Could have went with 3 of those but opted for Minstrel Boy. I don't know if it's down to the voting system but that isn't the greatest set of songs when you seem them all there. The BAD final was a much better line up.

IH and MB are the only ones that stick out to me as not really worth serious consideration. All told, I think the group did a solid job in confirming the cream.

Are we in the minority to prefer B.A.D to Meskies/Post Clash Joe?

Trying to get rid of Keys. The song is just so corny.

Probably but I don't think it'll be a small minority.
