ROUND 20 - THE FINALS - VI

Post by Flex »

Well, so long yalla yalla
Let's forget you didn't get enough support
Not in my time

20 rounds total. 6 rounds of finals. the laughter. the tears. the endless arguing about whether bhindee bhagee is secretly racist or not. we've all been stunned when a personal fave goes down early and baffled at the board's love of some tune or another. but this is what it all comes down to. garage rock perfection vs a burning late era shamanic grinder. make your choice and live with it.

also, for one last time, VOTE FOR THE SONG YOU LIKE LEAST PEOPLE.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

I can be genuinely pleased with either one winning. We get prime examples of fun, rock n roll Joe and hectoring "world music" Joe.

If there's any justice, Trash City will win.

Get Down Moses is just so bang average I find it hard to believe it's slugging it out in the final.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Everything Heston says, but reversed. GDM forever.

(Not really. I like Trash City. I just like Get Down Moses more)

One could interpret this to mean you have exceedingly high standards. Except for, well, all the other stuff you advocate.

Word. Repetitive melodically to its detriment.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I think this is gonna be a pretty lopsided finale. I'm on the GDM bandwagon as well - for the all the talk of how disparate Joe's career could be, GDM really feels like the synthesis of a lot of different stuff he was trying to do.

Many songs that I'd play before it, but I consider it a worthy winner.

Yeah, personally there are a clutch I'd put ahead of it on grounds of personal taste, but thinking of Joe's overall career this is a good winner that makes a lot of sense aesthetically and is well justified. Trash City is great, but I think it's in too narrow a lane.

No, but really, Get Down Moses is my actual favorite Joe solo track so clearly the system works.

Same here. It's so well constructed, and Joe is in top form in terms of passionate delivery. Trash City is cool and all, but maybe if it had a couple different parts to it...

I'm surprised it's this lopsided.

GDM is pretty repetitive. The verse is the same as the chorus. You have a little bridge and the occasional rundown but it is mostly a vamp from Am to Dm.
