Can someone explain Mark's reasoning here? How the hell can you tell from when an alarm goes off what time the alarm was set?

I'm not following. If the alarm goes off at midnight, say, how do you know if I left at six or eight or eleven? The only certainties Mark has are the last time he saw Rusty and when he discovered he wasn't there (when the alarm went off).

This no time to argue. Trees will be falling and that river will be raging.

I'm hoping that orphan will do something heroic, thus disproving the myth that orphans are leeches on society who are only good for menial labour in dark, dank factories.

Comics are all about fantasy. Plus it's fun to think about an orphan reading that and being given false hope.

For the last few months, John Byrne has been putting up pages of his X-Men fantasy series. Basically, what if Claremont left the book and not Byrne. He's uploaded, I dunno, seven issues now. And while the pencils are still fantastic, my god is he a mediocre writer. The stories have been really dull, but worse is that his narrative ADD. Every page or two he has to flash to outer space or the Savage Land or Xavier's mansion or the Baxter Building or …. Just constantly one scene cutting to another scene cutting to another scene. For all Byrne's complaints about the state of comics and non-traditional storytelling, it's extremely postmodern in its constant jumping from one narrative to the next. No flow at all.

To be fair, Claremont's revisiting of the title over the years is also impossible to read without falling asleep. The only one I really got into was his third run at one of the flagships because Alan Davis was on pencils.
