And the original demo for "Ceremony" had Stephen Morris singing.

There are a few Queen songs without Freddie Mercury singing. '39 is probably my favourite (Brian May sings that one).

Re: Great songs where the recognised lead singer doesn't sing the song
When Meg took lead on White Stripes songs (usually about 1 per album) I always found them quite charming. This one is, I think, genuinely great:
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead
Pex Lives!

That clearly violates the "great song" clause.

Oh, and if it hasn't been mentioned yet, arguably* the best 4-Skins song ever recorded was written and sung by the band's manager:
*I mean, I'd go for ACAB myself

Does Sumner sing on any JD songs? I can't even think of a prominent backing vocal?Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑22 Jun 2020, 2:20pmAnd the original demo for "Ceremony" had Stephen Morris singing.

Not to my knowledge. When New Order formed, it was up in the air who would take over vocals. He was certainly not the obvious choice. That he was allowed to be the lyricist was the much deeper problem.drowninghere wrote: ↑22 Jun 2020, 3:24pmDoes Sumner sing on any JD songs? Yes! Love his songs on that album. The Only One is brilliant. Add Two Guitars Clash and you have a great Henry EP.
