Tallest dwarf. Looking at his filmography, that stands out as the most defensible. St. Elmo's Fire may have had more cultural cachet at the time, but they have been more credit to studio promoters for creating the Brat Pack.

Heavily dated now. Doesn't stand up very well.

I don't know, there are a few good ones in his body of work. Falling Down is an 80s classic for me.

Didn’t that come out in like 93? And isn’t it just Michael Douglas going around beating up ethnic people and then dying at the Santa Monica pier?
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

It was 93, my mistake. He killed a lot of people in the movie in equal opportunity style.

"Some will even find it racist because the targets of the film's hero are African-American, Latino and Korean - with a few whites thrown in for balance."

Isn't the guts of the film the aggrieved white male who blames everyone around him? Seems ready for a remake.

I think it's funny when someone make a statement piece like this and the people you're critiquing love it like it's a compliment.

Fight Club comes to mind. Neither the book nor film is a celebration of brutality (rather its seduction and gateway to fascism), but of course there were all kinds of numbskulls who wanted to start up their own fight clubs.

I remember liking Falling Down a lot. I must have watched it in high school, some friend was like "this movie rules, you need to see it" and my reaction afterwards was "it does rule, but i don't think we're watching it the same way..."

Lost Boys I think I rewatched in the last year and still found quite charming, if very silly.

Schumacher Batman movies are kinda underrated. They're basically actual attempts to translate Batman-as-a-comic-book to a movie format. They're some of the last superhero movies i can think of that aren't ashamed of their source material.

I've never seen Falling Down in it's entirety, but you don't go off on a fast food worker for adhering to policy implented by the corpoate overlord. Fuck you, short sleeve.

The great Carl Reiner, 98. Funny, funny man who seemed a genuinely good soul.
