Our first song is set:
S1T1 Blondie, “Hanging on the Telephone”

Winning 65% of the vote against 3 other options means there is no showdown final round. Going forward, any song where Deborah Harry sings lead is ineligible for consideration.

We will now entertain nominations for Side 1 Track 2. You’ve got around 48 hours.

Shame as there are some great Blondie tracks that could be nominated that are not a cover version.
There were a crazy number of excellent nominations that round, which shouldn't surprise as the lead track is supposed to be strong. If it'd come to me breaking a tie, I probably would have leaned to the Kate Bush song, but HotT is excellent (tho I prefer the original).

Kelly Clarkson - Since U Been Gone is the clear choice here.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Weird. I remember that song being huge and being the only Annie solo song that ever got any play. Looks like it wasn't dramatically more popular than a lot of her other songs at the time: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annie_Lennox_discography

Nevermind, I'm listening to a bunch of her stuff now and it's all familiar - "Why", "No More I Love You's".

That's the one that can compete. Hopefully it's a showdown between those two.
