I do love that song, which I managed to be taught by a old dirtbag hippie banjo player before I heard the Pogues version, so in my head it’s always sung in a vaguely Tom Waits-ian voice.

Finally squeezed them all in. I'd be ok with almost half of them. They basically fall into 3 categories of like it, indifferent, hate it. Fewer fall into the last category than you might expect

It came on the radio today. Which is the main problem I have with it. It's on the radio every day. Really good song though.

Mark them like I did. That's what I'm gonna do now.revbob wrote: ↑23 Jul 2020, 5:26pmFinally squeezed them all in. I'd be ok with almost half of them. They basically fall into 3 categories of like it, indifferent, hate it. Fewer fall into the last category than you might expect

You've changed, man. It used to be about hating the music.

Sorry to be negative in some cases but just throwing out an honest opinion after two or three plays...
Love and Affection - 9/10 - Absolute classic from Joan
Can the Can - 8/10 - Love Suzi, shame she never had many hits in her homeland
Zombie - 3/10 - I love "Linger" but this song always irritated me. Too yodelly
Malibu - 6/10 - Just sounds like ordinary indie/pop to me even after 3 plays
It's Oh So Quiet - 9/10 - This is how to do quirky right. A wondrous creation
The Agenda - 5/10 - Ok, but not pulling up any trees for me
Asking For It - 5/10 - This my first time listening to Hole, and I have to admit, I'm not a fan
SOS - 10/10 - On another level
Criminal - 7/10 - I thought this was ELO when it started, good track
Repetition - 6.5/10 - Passed me by a bit at first but has a bit of charm
Cities In Dust - 6/10 - They had much better, hopefully one of them will make the album
The Emperor's New Clothes - 7.5/10 - This is restrained and nice
Let Me Know - 6/10 - Too blatantly pop for me
Future People - 5/10 - Too mad for me
Walk Like An Egyptian - 8/10 - Cheesy as fuck but some great lyrics in the verses
Destination Unknown - 7/10 - I really like this
I'm a Man You Don't Meet Every Day - 10/10 - Just one of those perfect songs and what a vocal. That Irish lilt is invigorating

Re: The Ultimate Women's Album - Side 1 Track 4 Nominations
Joan Armatrading - Great voice the song just doesn't do much for me. 6/10
Suzi Quatro - Im not really familiar with her music. She's having fun and all but I gotta believe she has better songs than this. Probably was more fun to experience it live than listening to it on the computer. 5/10
Cranberries - Never much listened to them. Another great voice, good song. 6.5/10
Hole - Another band I haven't given any time to, a decent pop song I guess. 5/10
Bjork - Ive always liked her more in theory than in practice. I like this when it gets big band jazzy. 7/10
RV - I nominated it so yeah I like it. 7.5
Hole - Im having a hard time separating a person who I dont care for from her music. I prefer this to the previous Hole nomination. 5.5/10
ABBA - I know like 3 songs of theirs. Fernando, DQ and something else maybe. The chorus is the best part of the song. Ultimately the delivery/style/production doesn't really work for me. I will say I liked it more than I expected. 6/10
Fiona Apple - the 90s are back again. I know her name but not her music. Much to my surprise I actually like this song. 6.5/10
AuPairs - Never really listened to them before, this song just isn't my speed. 5/10
Siouxsie - not real familiar with her catalog either. I like it. 6/10
Sinead - I prefer her first album to her 2nd. Love her voice and still have a soft spot for her. Her descent into madness is hard to watch. 7/10
Roisin Murphy - Fine voice but the music is not at all my speed 3/10
Alabama Shakes - I never heard them before either. I wrongly presumed they were a Hootie-esque protege band like Lady White Power. They aren't but the song doesn't move me. 4/10
Bangles - you know it, you love it. Im not a huge fan but a fine pop song. 6.5/10
Missing Persons - this is just generic 80s music to me and my love for 80s synth pop is legendary. 3/10
Cait/Pogues - LOVE LOVE LOVE her voice and this song. 9/10
