Blankenberge, Radiogaze. Russian shoegaze/dreampop (the music is shoegaze, the vocals dreampop). Absolutely nothing distinct or innovative about what they do, but if you love wave after wave of distorted guitar and feedback with ghostly, almost trilling vocals, this is great shit.

Trust me, the music would make you want to do the same. The same kids who listen to that have every Cure and Morrissey record. No false advertising at all about that band. But in very small doses and large gaps of time, I'm okay with 'em.

Inspired by a recent discussion with Heston about Steve Marriott. It's been years since I've listened to this and it's really good.

I prefer The Small Faces and The Faces. But I like a fair amount of Humble Pie tracks like Natural Born Bugie (Boogie) and 30 Days in the Hole are greaf. I saw Steve a couple of times with his band Packet of Three. Nice guy and a very sad loss.

Hello,

By coincidence, I just picked up SKAmpler, a compilation from Tudor, a Swiss label, with some German ska bands on it. Like most ska compilations, there's hits and misses.

Disco Inferno, In Debt. Why don't I play these guys more frequently? Every time I do I think they're one of the great, albeit unheralded, bands of all time. If you're a post-punk fan (think Wire, Joy Division, and other early Factory bands), you should love these guys. This album collects their first record and some ep's, where their post-punk worship shows. They went on to do even better stuff once they became obsessed with sampling. Seriously, these guys are in any list of "great bands you've never heard before."

Spider Murphy Gang aren't really a ska band though.

Don't know that many German ska bands to be honest... Geier Sturzflug, Frits, early Fehlfarben, Busters, that's about it.
