Hello,

Joan Jett - Crimson and Clover. Okay, it's a cover - but her take on it is sufficiently different from the original. Additionally, it's not what most would consider a feminine-type version/style, so ground-breaking.

Billie Holiday - Strange Fruit
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

Great song but as a follow up to fucking ABBA?

I vote for a recall election on round 4 so we can get rid of ABBA.

In my mind the transition can be a loud angry or an equally soft and thoughtful song but not a disco song for fuck sake.

Sorry but the ABBA song is better. Strange Fruit has a great lyric and vocal but the tune does nothing for me.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

The gorgeous Clare Grogan with a lovely song from that most pop of years, 1983...

I dunno, it's probably favourite to win so far. It's me who has the problem with pre-1964 music.

But there you were listening to Dion the other day.

Or was it Dio?

Ok, you got me, I do like some old music. But never been too struck on jazzy stuff like the Billie Holiday song.

What album is this from? Did they even have them in the late 30s?
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
