I think you really have to be English to appreciate them. I love England, but not that much.

I'll go for the whole of side 1, with Sweet Gene Vincent and My Old Man as the top two.

My vinyl version doesn't have Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll on it, so I think of that as an extra. On the Deluxe 2CD I do like some of the demos, Apples being my favourite.

Been playing Do It Yourself quite a bit recently, seems to be growing on me more and more, possibly even prefer it to New Boots & Panties now. This Is What We Find is a classic Ian Dury song, very funny and very rude (to quote the man himself).

For me S&D and W Up show the Blockheads at their absolute best as a band. Ian is brilliant on so many other tracks but those are the Blockheads finest moments.

I love 'em both but my all time fave is "What A Waste" that'll be my funeral song.

Start of a great run of singles.
I just found out NBAP was not a Blockheads album!!!! it is credited to Ian Dury 😳
Although to be fair most of the Blockheads play on it.

I make reference to it being credited to just Ian in my first post.

So the shit rages on. Will it ever end?

Top 5 songs about police brutality/racism etc. Only rule you must pick 5 separate artists.

1. Police & Thieves - The Clash
2. Jah War - The Ruts
3. Johnny Was - Stiff Little Fingers
4. Doesn't Make It Alright - The Specials
5. Bored Policeman - Newtown Neurotics

I did a 2 disc mix on this subject years ago. Looking over my list of songs. So many to choose from. Glad to see Doc listed Bang Bang its a chilling song especially at the end when they count out the 41 shots cops used to take down one unarmed man. All cops were found not guilty.
