Really smooth and creamy. Much more sophisticated than Guinness but in the same black milk sort of wheelhouse. The best stout I had came from Hill Farmstead which I got on draft at Hardwick, VT's only pub (The Scale House).
That maple beer that my wife got was too sweet for me. Very tasty but nothing I wanted more than a couple of sips of.

When we lived in Grand Rapids, MI the city was trying so hard to market itself as Beer City. I have to chuckle because the availability of great beer is so damn good in New England, with Vermont and Maine leading the charge. It was great to get out of Massachusetts where the Double IPA fad has eclipsed a lot of easier drinking brews. Reflecting on my time in Michigan and NYC make me so happy to have returned to my urbane New England sensibilities.
