“At the same time, though, it was incredible that Foreigner did so well,” he continues. “I was quite prepared to spend three or four years building a career. It even did okay in Britain, too, until punk made our sort of music a dirty word.”
My parents have a pool in their backyard and it is a frequent summer hangout for my sisters and I and our families and good ole' American AOR is often the soundtrack. We didn't grow up as fans of this music, but for some reason it's a good soundtrack to summer.
It's never gonna be my go to music. But if it's on in the background somewhere then it doesn't offend in any way.
That’s a good way of putting it.

When I was about 22 I went to a bar where a buddy of mine was tending at happy hour. He had just bought a cheap Foreigner best of and I realized I somehow knew all ten songs on it despite never actually being a fan or even really liking them. But none of them were hateful. Just sort of there.

I do genuinely like Boston’s debut album because it’s basically a perfectly evolved shark of 70s arena rock.
I think I've come around to this point of view as well (though I still have PTSD from Boston because of the Paranormal Activity guy). I don't need to prove my punk rock bonafides by shitting on this kind of music, and some of it is actually enjoyable. And most of it is fine. Which I guess may be more of an indictment than saying something is horrible. I don't know.

I can sometimes tolerate some of this stuff, depends on the situation. Long term exposure is definitely bad for my mental health.

Exactly. It's good background music.

The funny thing is, I knew the song and liked it as a minor new wave hit. It's nowhere near as monumental as "Paranoid." It's not like a Sabbath fan, but how can anyone deny what a fucking monstrous, epic song "Paranoid" is? If they all got on Skynyrd's plane after recording it, they'd still be legends.

More Than A Feeling - Boston
Wheel in the Sky - Journey
Jane - Jefferson Starship
Tow the Line - Toto
Urgent - Foreigner
I only know one of those songs and it should be the American National Anthem. Perfect in every way.

I probably have heard all five (I know I've heard 3) and the one you are talking about is the only one I have any strong fondness for.

I have definitely come around to your point of view on it being our anthem.

Are people inferring that Another Girl, Another Planet isn't one of the greatest songs of all time?
