I think I've come around to this point of view as well (though I still have PTSD from Boston because of the Paranormal Activity guy). I don't need to prove my punk rock bonafides by shitting on this kind of music, and some of it is actually enjoyable. And most of it is fine. Which I guess may be more of an indictment than saying something is horrible. When I was about 22 I went to a bar where a buddy of mine was tending at happy hour. He had just bought a cheap Foreigner best of and I realized I somehow knew all ten songs on it despite never actually being a fan or even really liking them. But none of them were hateful. Just sort of there.
I do genuinely like Boston’s debut album because it’s basically a perfectly evolved shark of 70s arena rock.

I can sometimes tolerate some of this stuff, depends on the situation. Long term exposure is definitely bad for my mental health.JennyB wrote: ↑16 Sep 2020, 11:31amI think I've come around to this point of view as well (though I still have PTSD from Boston because of the Paranormal Activity guy). Re: The Mighty Musical Observations Thread
The funny thing is, I knew the song and liked it as a minor new wave hit. It's nowhere near as monumental as "Paranoid." It's not like a Sabbath fan, but how can anyone deny what a fucking monstrous, epic song "Paranoid" is? If they all got on Skynyrd's plane after recording it, they'd still be legends.revbob wrote: ↑16 Sep 2020, 7:04pmIve forgotten both the artist and song already (as have most).Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑16 Sep 2020, 7:02pmI have been chosen by the village elders to be the Keeper of the Spite.revbob wrote: ↑16 Sep 2020, 6:54pmI had totally blocked that shit out, and will soon forget it again.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑16 Sep 2020, 6:27pmThe Only Ones' "Another Girl, Another Planet" at 44: Yeah, it's decent enough still, I suppose.revbob wrote: ↑16 Sep 2020, 6:14pmBlack Sabbath’s Paranoid at 50: potent anthems of working-class strife

I have definitely come around to your point of view on it being our anthem.

Are people inferring that Another Girl, Another Planet isn't one of the greatest songs of all time?
