The Ultimate Women's Album - Side 2 Track 6 Nominations

Post by Dr. Medulla »

Well, that was a helluva ending! I looked in with 10 minutes left and thought, "For fuck's sake, one of you meatheads need to break the damned tie." Thank you to the meathead who did.

So, The Au Pairs snuck in at the end and The Interrupters continue to be the girl with the most bridesmaid dresses in her closet (luckily you can wear it at other formal gatherings, says every bride, possibly even believing that peach and lilac satiny dresses are, in fact, reuseable).

Final song of the album before the flexi single round. On this one, any song on Side 2, Track 6 and up is eligible. If there's only a cd version available—I'll bet discogs.com would be able to tell you that—any song Track 12 and up is eligible (assuming it wasn't nominated for Side 1, Track 6).

We're near the finish line, people. There's beer and pizza there.

Blondie, "Hanging On the Telephone"
The Breeders, "Cannonball"
Dusty Springfield, "Son of a Preacher Man"
ABBA, "SOS"
Althea & Donna, "Uptown Top Ranking"
Kate Bush, "Wuthering Heights"

Nina Simone, "To be Young, Gifted, & Black"
Garbage, "Stupid Girl"
The Pretenders, "Brass in the Pocket"
Donna Summer, "I Feel Love"
The Au Pairs, "It's Obvious"
"I never doubted myself for a minute for I knew that my monkey-strong bowels were girded with strength, like the loins of a dragon ribboned with fat and the opulence of buffalo dung." - Richard Nixon, Checkers Speech, abandoned early draft

I'm not nominating this round. My full support is behind the superb "Jenny Drinks" by the Interrupters. One of their finest. That song is when the band really started flexing their chops, creating colorful characters to go with the hooks and the grit. Beyond some of the aesthetic qualities, that song is where the Interrupters really took up the full Clash mantle as musical storytellers par excellence. These are the same streets walked as a song like Death or Glory (or anything off the first Specials album, come that).

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

And here I thought you were the meathead who tied it up to put me in the miserable position of breaking the tie because it'd be funny. But you were the meathead who saved me. Thank you, noble Bavarian!

My fav song off of that album. Throwing my limited weight behind that one though I suspect Interrupters may be due for this like Return of the King sweeping the 03 Oscars.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
