AHDN - Side A - Round 1

Post by WestwayKid »

A little trivia about A Hard Day's Night. It's the only album they ever released that was 100% Lennon/McCartney. No covers, no George or Ringo written songs. John really dominates this LP. Overall, it's a fantastic pop album and the development from With the Beatles to this release is amazing.

I honestly don't know how I'm going to vote in the 1st round. It's a great side.

This is a really hard one, the tunes are all great and I like the feeling of the lesser known ones. I'm going to vote off Can't Buy Me Love as I enjoy it the least, it doesn't hit the epic note I feel like it's going for.

I'm leaning in this direction. While I think it's a good song, it's never been a particular favorite of mine.

I voted And I Love Her. Great song, but a bit too soppy IMO.

One of my favourite Beatles songs, "I Should Have Known Better," is on this album. I know it won't beat the title track, but making the final two would be satisfying.

I'm struggling a little with these. I don't really have strong opinions about most of the beatles catalog other than "it's good"

Yes! I've found a kindred spirit. Not many of us about. It's all Revolvers and Peppers.

It's a great collection of well crafted pop songs that still rock pretty damned hard.

Lennon really hit his stride on this LP...writing the majority of the tracks. The leap in their skills as writers and performers really is astounding. I'm listening to it right now and Things We Said Today just came on. Can you even imagine a track like that on With the Beatles?

I've said on here before; Rubber Soul is my favourite of theirs.

Yeah, crazy leap in songwriting. The only way something like that could have been on the debut is if they were covering a Motown artist.
