A (possibly) interesting argument to be had: Which decade's dreck (of the rock era) is the worst?

It's definitely one that can't be won because it's very hard to really agree on what's the absolute worst flavor of feces.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑24 Oct 2020, 3:39pmA (possibly) interesting argument to be had: Which decade's dreck (of the rock era) is the worst?

Less about winning or losing than exploring people's criteria for awful or what genres make for rottenness.Wolter wrote: ↑24 Oct 2020, 4:04pmIt's definitely one that can't be won because it's very hard to really agree on what's the absolute worst flavor of feces.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑24 Oct 2020, 3:39pmA (possibly) interesting argument to be had: Which decade's dreck (of the rock era) is the worst?

Not even this really. Punk through up some proper rubbish. Sure there are a lot of crap bands from that late 90s period but you'll always get bad to good to great in every genre.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑24 Oct 2020, 4:29pmLess about winning or losing than exploring people's criteria for awful or what genres make for rottenness.Wolter wrote: ↑24 Oct 2020, 4:04pmIt's definitely one that can't be won because it's very hard to really agree on what's the absolute worst flavor of feces.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑24 Oct 2020, 3:39pmA (possibly) interesting argument to be had: Which decade's dreck (of the rock era) is the worst?
It's just comes down to preference and the two types of music...good or bad.

I am intrigued if we compare 85-89 vs 96-00. Five year segments seem to represent full movements more tightly than whole decades. I think hair metal and nu metal would largely cancel each other out and we’d have to weigh other factors.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑24 Oct 2020, 3:39pmA (possibly) interesting argument to be had: Which decade's dreck (of the rock era) is the worst?
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I got that album (Crock of Gold) out of the record library back in the day and I really couldn't get into it. Did I miss anything?
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board
Re: The Mighty Musical Observations Thread
This is for the movie documentary. The album by the same name has some high points but was a disappointment overall I thought. I should probably try again though been 15 or 20 years.
