Pepper - Side B - Round 1

Post by WestwayKid »

What's going first? George's Indian track? Paul's musical hall pastiche? Honestly, I feel like it's a given that A Day in the Life takes this side and then goes on to a strong showing in the finals.

Bye bye sitar bore fest which had no right to be on the album. Piss poor effort.

I'll let George's sitargasm sit this round because it's at least adventurous in context. "When I'm Sixty-Four" is Paul's worst instincts coming together—old people music matched with lyrics about wishing he was that old.

Not a fan of 64 but love the backing vocals on the "scrimp and save" bits.

When I'm sixty four is pure boomer energy and I hate it for that

I feel like there’s enough hate in me for both, but that sitar song is the worst part of the Beatles 6th or 7th best album.

the Beatles 6th or 7th best album.
i'm sure we've done this before, but i'm sitting and waiting for a call, so:

(0th place shout out to the Yellow Submarine Songtrack, their best release)
1. Beatles For Sale
2. The White Album
3. Magical Mystery Tour
4. Help
5. Revolver
6. With The Beatles
7. Rubber Soul
8. A Hard Day's Night
9. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
10. Please Please Me
11. Abbey Road
12. Let It Be
13. Yellow Submarine

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop

Listened to it again and, yeah, it doesn't grate as I once thought it did. I actually like the sounds, but the overall effect is a bit nothing.

And:
1. Magical Mystery Tour
2. The White Album
3. Revolver
4. Rubber Soul
5. Please Please Me
6. Abbey Road
7. Pepper
8–13. Don't care enough to rank.

I think part of my hatred of it is that if this is the “greatest album of all time” why the fuck am I hearing George noodle on a sitar for fucking ever?

My ballpark guess of order without thinking too hard:
1. Revolver
2. Abbey
3. White
4. Magical (full version with singles)
5. Hard Day’s Night
6. Rubber Soul
7. Pepper
8. Help? Maybe?
9. 8 might actually be Please Please Me
10. With? Is it With? Probably With
11. For Sale
12. Let It Be

Looks like I'm the only one who likes Let It Be. Pepper is overrated but I've said it before, I think all the Beatles albums have some weak songs. Rubber Soul has that bad run in the middle. Revolver has 3 duds. The White Album is riddled with filler. That's why my favourite Beatles album is A Hard Day's Night, purely for its ratio of good songs.

Ps. Isn't Magical Mystery Tour a compilation album as released in the States?

The only Beatles album worth it's salt is this one released on Medulla Records.
