I've mentioned it before in the Spunkstain thread.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑04 Jan 2021, 7:31pmNow that you mention it, an unrealized Hoyston link has been found.

Nobody reads that thread. We just post mocking crap in there hoping to make Hoy cry.Heston wrote: ↑04 Jan 2021, 7:40pmI've mentioned it before in the Spunkstain thread.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑04 Jan 2021, 7:31pmNow that you mention it, an unrealized Hoyston link has been found.

Re: The Mighty Musical Observations Thread
I'd have to remind myself of the other one tbh, but Fretless would definitely have been an addition imo. It's just SHP and LMR are the tracks that drag the album down for me and pointless arguing that because they were never going to be left off. Maybe Low, even though i think it's a decent track. Side 2 of OoT is quite low key but i really like every single track on it. EndGame is another exquisite tune.WestwayKid wrote: ↑04 Jan 2021, 7:14pmI've heard Peter Buck express that he wishes they would have included both Fretless and It's A Free World Baby. Not sure what he would cut, but also not sure those 2 tracks would make it a better album, either.Low Down Low wrote: ↑04 Jan 2021, 5:16pmYeah...near great is probably a fair assessment. Near Wild Heaven is transcendent and it and Belong would be well inside my rem top 5. Just one more belter, i think, and that album would have been made. It's not that far off imo.WestwayKid wrote: ↑04 Jan 2021, 4:39pmThere are indeed some real gems: Near Wild Heaven is one of my fave REM tracks. Half a World Away is another really good one. The more I think about it, yeah...it really is actually a near great release.Low Down Low wrote: ↑04 Jan 2021, 4:18pmConcur with the comment about Out of Time being uneven. But i would say when it's great, that album is really great so still gets the greatness tag from me, despite the couple of obvious clangers. I also think objectively SHP is not a bad pop-rock song, it's just quite annoying after a few too many listens.
I also heartily endorse the general tribute album thumbs down. Off hand, can't think of a single one i've ever wanted to repeat listen. I know some liked it ok, but apart from the brilliant mikey dread take on SoS, i thought the S! project thing was pretty awful overall.

The perfect shot across the bow that the hippie Sixties were done. I mean, seriously, within the context of its times, it's a really fucking significant song. Almost as significant as "Another Girl Another Planet," anyway.Silent Majority wrote: ↑07 Jan 2021, 12:39pmStill a vital, exciting recording with a salt of the earth, gritty profundity.

As well as Ozzy sounding like a fuck up kid from down the street who's been placed in real psychological torment, the playing is aggressively cosmic and out there.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑07 Jan 2021, 1:15pmThe perfect shot across the bow that the hippie Sixties were done. "All You Need Is Love" may as well have been released 100 years before "Paranoid" in terms of shifting the mood of rock fans.Silent Majority wrote: ↑07 Jan 2021, 1:34pmAs well as Ozzy sounding like a fuck up kid from down the street who's been placed in real psychological torment, the playing is aggressively cosmic and out there.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑07 Jan 2021, 1:15pmThe perfect shot across the bow that the hippie Sixties were done. Oh yeah, different universes. Compare the two and Paranoid nukes the smug, doped-out, thoughtless bit of hackwork that is All You Need is Love from outer space.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑07 Jan 2021, 1:47pm"All You Need Is Love" may as well have been released 100 years before "Paranoid" in terms of shifting the mood of rock fans.Silent Majority wrote: ↑07 Jan 2021, 1:34pmAs well as Ozzy sounding like a fuck up kid from down the street who's been placed in real psychological torment, the playing is aggressively cosmic and out there.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑07 Jan 2021, 1:15pmThe perfect shot across the bow that the hippie Sixties were done.
