Pepper - Side B - Round 5
The improbable run of SPLHCB (Reprise) ends in this round (I think & hope)!

It never seemed improbable to me. I always assumed it was a highly regarded Beatles song, more so than the song it reprised.WestwayKid wrote: ↑05 Jan 2021, 12:48pmThe improbable run of SPLHCB (Reprise) ends in this round (I think & hope)!

And yet three people—three!—have so far voted for a reprise over a consensus inner circle Beatles song. When we did these polls with the Clash, even when I disagreed (vehemently at times) with the results, I could understand the basic thinking behind it. The choices in these votes so far—chiefly the last three albums—completely bewilder me. It's approaching Manson levels of "what the hell are you hearing?"

A Day In the Life is the one song on this album that makes me think “I see why this gets hyped.” Voting for it to go over a fucking reprise (and I don’t even hate the reprise, but it’s just a reprise) is baffling.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑05 Jan 2021, 2:36pmAnd yet three people—three!—have so far voted for a reprise over a consensus inner circle Beatles song. i prefer to think of it as three voters who still don't get how these poll mechanics work
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

I hope so. If someone actually voted for the reprise over A Day in the Life...I'd definitely want to hear the justification.

Agreed and then some. It can be critiqued as stitching together two unfinished songs, but the overall effect is epic.

I just think a lot of people underestimated how well that reprise is regarded. Hate to be smug but I knew it would do well.

I was musing the other day on whether it would be fun to do this kind of exercise for Bowie albums. But when I realized with this board we'd be assured of "Rebel Rebel" winning, I decided no, it would not be fun.

No way—Let's Dance or, if eligible, Dancing in the Street.Kory wrote: ↑05 Jan 2021, 3:21pmI've said it before and I'll say it again: democracy simply doesn't work.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑05 Jan 2021, 2:36pmAnd yet three people—three!—have so far voted for a reprise over a consensus inner circle Beatles song.
