The Gruen Book

Post by Kory »

Was anyone quick enough to jump on the Gruen book when the hardcover came out way back? If so, could I see a photo of it? I'm in the market for one since the glue in the spine of my paperback version has started failing. I ordered one on eBay which was listed as a hardcover with minor dust jacket wear. The book that arrived on my porch today was in fact the same paperback I already have, with damage to the cover itself. I suspect the covers may be different between the two versions—I can't find anything definitive, but I'm at a bit of a disadvantage if people are going to lie about what they're selling and I don't have enough knowledge other than my lovely trusting nature.

I didn't get the hardback, just the first edition paperback with the obi. Here's a hardback on eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-Bob-Gru ... 3826239462.

My copy matches the two ebay listings too. No 'dust jacket' at all, so beware of any mention of one - the book itself has that yellow/black striped cover, glossy laminated board with no dust jacket. It fits inside the red outer slipcase which is also thick board, covered with a sort of textured linen/fabric finish. Really nice and weighs a ton so postage will be pricey!

Thanks all! It looks like some of the Google shop links have a photo of this hardcover even when they're selling a paperback. Lots of shady dealings going on...

edit: shoot, none of these ship to the US. If anyone thinks of it, please keep an eye out for me. I'm willing to pay quite a bit if you see one floating around the 'net.

I found a paperback copy a month or so back, the hardcover appears to be pretty rare. I tried a Google search for one today, but once you went deeper in to the vendors website, it was apparent they were actually paperbacks.

Yeah I was having the same problem. It seems like any hardcover I find is going to be in the UK.

That's the version I have as well. I think I originally bought the paperback, but that fell apart fairly quickly.

That's such a weak cover for such a cool book.

Yeah, pretty crappy. What were they thinking.

I'd say the Pennie Smith book has the more memorable pictures though. Or maybe that's because it was the first Clash photo book I got.

The captions in the Smith book are definitely more memorable.

On the subject of books I've seen the Vince White on sale for over a grand.
