Seriously though I understand Cost of Living was released later on but GEER is already such a powerhouse of a record. Imagine of those songs plus Pressure Drop were included.

Track listing:

Safe European Home
English Civil War
Tommy Gun
Julies been Working for the Drug Squad
Gates of the West
Pressure drop
Last Gang in Town
Guns on the Roof
I Fought the Law
Capital Radio
Groovy Times
Drug Stabbing Time
Cheepskates
Stay Free
All the Young Punks

Or maybe if you wanted to trim it down a bit omit the weaker songs on GEER for the COL songs:

Safe European Home
English Civil War
Tommy Gun
Julies Been Working for the Drug Squad
Pressure drop
Gates of the west
I fought the law
Capital Radio
Groovy times
Stay Free
Cheapskates
All The Young Punks

Always thought the Cost of Living EP had its foot in two camps. Capital Radio Two and I Fought the Law belong with GEER, and Groovy Times and Gates of the West with London Calling. I definitely think they could have used a couple of extra tracks on GEER, though I think they kept it short for audio quality purposes.

And yet ironically it's the latter two tracks that were given away on a free 7" single with the US/Canadian copy of GEER.

Was it not the US/Canadian version of the debut album they came with?

Damn yeah you are correct mate. I lost the plot there for a second. 🤣

I think they all belong to LC as they were recorded at Wessex in '79.

However I can see how CR2 and IFtL fit with GEER as they heard the latter on the juke box at the Automatt. Also "Groovy Times" as "Groovy Times Are Here Again" was also recorded as a GEER track.

You could add Complete Control to the first album but it wouldn't be right. 😉

The Clash are one of those rare bands who's B Sides and Non album tracks are pretty much exactly on par if not better than the LP stuff. Super Black Market Clash might be my 2nd favorite Clash record. Not even joking.

Isn't one emotion a GEER outtake?

Yes. I think Heart and Mind is as well, though it ended up on the Vanilla Tapes. It has a very similar sound. The quality seems too good compared to the rest of that tape.

They both kind of use the same type of descending chord progression.

Yes, they're nearly the same song.

I wish Heart and Mind was fleshed out more. That 101ers Keys to your Heart outro is killer.

Some very fine B-sides for sure. My perfect version of the first album would have included the single version of White Riot and not the Beaconsfield session. That session track should've been the single but it's less commercial sounding. I would've used 1977 as an album track and used Capital Radio as the single B--side and not a freebie.

1977 definitely should have been included. I vastly prefer capital radio II. The first one lacks the same power. The acoustic intro and the “drummer in the box office outro” are fucking class.

Yeah but not on the first album. That CR II was recorded in 1979. Now your getting into the disjointed US version of the album.
