My first Perry was on that transcendent Dub Chill Out comp, which changed my damn life.Kimmelweck wrote: ↑08 Apr 2021, 3:18pmThis was my introduction to Lee “Scratch” Perry. Heard it on a reggae hour radio show in the mid-90s and spent a while tracking it down, as he uses the same title on one or two very different songs. Still one of my favorites from crazy ol' Lee.

I really can't remember the first time I heard Lee. But I expect it was the Upsetters albums. I do really love the Super Ape album and some of his Black Ark stuff is freaking awesome.Kory wrote: ↑08 Apr 2021, 5:24pmMy first Perry was on that transcendent Dub Chill Out comp, which changed my damn life.Kimmelweck wrote: ↑08 Apr 2021, 3:18pmThis was my introduction to Lee “Scratch” Perry. Re: What Are you Listening to Right Now?
I hadn’t come across that Dub Chill Out comp before. Got it on youtube right now, about 4 songs in. Great stuff. Reminds me of Lee’s 3-disc Arkology set, which I’ve listened to a million times. I have the Ape-Ology 2-disc set with Super Ape and Return of Super Ape too. There for a while I was grabbing every $5 Lee Perry cd I could find on ebay or Amazon, so I’ve picked up a ton. He probably appears on 400 or more albums, including his own albums, comps, or collaborations, so I know I've only heard a fraction of his stuff. Haven’t found any I didn’t like.Marky Dread wrote: ↑08 Apr 2021, 5:54pmI really can't remember the first time I heard Lee. But I expect it was the Upsetters albums. Not so odd considering the New German Wave was in full bloom around that time.RockNRollWhore wrote: ↑08 Apr 2021, 4:00pmI’m a little confused though. My favorites from that album are that, Here Comes the Flood, and of course Solsbury Hill.Kory wrote: ↑08 Apr 2021, 2:23pmI still remember the first time I heard "Moribund the Burgermeister." I saw Pete at the Human Rights Now show at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto in 1988 and still have the t-shirt from that show.
