Really giving this album a shot for the first time today, I can't believe I slept on it for so long. It's pretty damn good. I think I just had too much loyalty to John Foxx or something.

That first Ultravox album has some great tracks on it. New Europeans and Sleepwalk are my faves but it's all good. I've got the deluxe box set but have yet to play it.
I had assumed based on its reputation that it was going to be a lot more smooth, poppy, and New Romantic, but I hear a lot of the abrasion of the original Ultravox! in here. Some very cool guitar parts, even though I think Robin Simon was gone by this point.
Yep Robin was gone but Midge is a brilliant guitar player. What you get with the first Ultravox album is a extension of The Rich Kids and the craftsmanship of Billy, Chris and Warren.

I just picked up a couple of Southside Johnny CDs. I really dig their soul/r&b vibe.

So about 13 minutes. And that's just the intro which is an anvil beating.

They aren't anywhere close to my favourite band, but there's something about J&MC that is cooler than anyone else.
