Do you think Joe ever got razor bumps? His skin always looked ultra smooth.

Speaking of sequencing, this turned up in the Clash City Collectors FB group. A letter from Joe to Tricia about the Essential comp.

At least he agrees Do It Now is bad. Also lol @ Mikey Dread. Looks like the took his input seriously. I never noticed that singles KYR, Hitsville and Call Up were not on the comp.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Joe consistently wanted to nix Know Your Rights from compilations. He struck it off Clash on Broadway as well. It was a very late addition on From Here to Eternity. I remember advocating to Mick on its behalf. Note that the U.S. got Police on My Back rather than Broadway. This was not the comp I posted that Mick said he regretted allowing This is England on. He gave that one to Joe. It was the 2007 Singles Box and CD compilation. By the time of Sound System, Paul also took a stand against including anything post-1982.
I remember there being a lot of back and forth (by proxy) among the three of them about the track list for Clash on Broadway.

I agree with Strummer about Know Your Rights. It doesn't manage what it wants to. Great, fascinating letter.

What does the "cut both sides" 45 refer to? Some beef with Mikey there obviously, over royalties maybe? Or someone getting stiffed on a second hand volvo?! In general agreement with Joe's Essential choices, apart from Call Up.

It would have been fascinating to be a a proxy fly on the wall about the discussions over adding things like One Emotion, ELBH, and Midnight to Stevens. I wonder why those at the time and not Fulham Connection or Kangaroo Court.TeddyB Not Logged In wrote: ↑05 Aug 2021, 2:12pmJoe consistently wanted to nix Know Your Rights from compilations. I remember that Mick wasn’t thrilled about including Every Little Bit Hurts. Also that Joe had nixed Up in Heaven.

Guess he wouldn't have voted for Stop The World in the recent poll on here.

That's one of Mick's best vocals (ELBH). Up in Heaven is great too though, so I get that.TeddyB Not Logged In wrote: ↑05 Aug 2021, 7:24pmI remember that Mick wasn’t thrilled about including Every Little Bit Hurts. Also that Joe had nixed Up in Heaven.
These factoids are fascinating to me since we don't have a lot of good info on what the band's favorite songs beyond making setlist and compilation based assumptions.

That's a great photo. It didn't happen that often, but it was possible for Mk II to actually look pretty cool.
