What about monkey assistant?
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

So do you have to buy a gun before you move there or are you issued one when you cross the border and pledge your allegiance to Tom Cruz and Greg Abbot?

so sold our house. we're gonna have to live w/ Mother in Law in Texas for about a month while looking for our own house. The thing that's appealing, is we sell our LA house, pay the bank, buy a house in Texas clean, and never have a mortgage payment again. Even though it's mortgage, I still call it rent. It's fucking rent. So like Eric Burdon said "no more time spent....sweatin' rent".

They issue one, but it's a cheapie and they look at you funny if you don't have your own. and it's not Tom Cruz, it's Pablo Cruise!

It's a seriously good feeling being free of the mortgage. Just one less thing that could go wrong. Congrats on taking advantage of fucked up property values.

Wife and I had had a similar discussion prior to retirement, but we both have older parents that live alone in this area, so I guess we're staying for the time being. I totally get the desire not to have to be burdened with a mortgage, I hate owing anybody anything, but I'm not sure exactly where we'd want to relocate to. The forest fires we've had here in California kind of changed our minds on living in a "wooded" area.

Hello,

Step one: Transition to new job.

Texas is a funny (like funny odd, not funny ha-ha) but housing is really cheap compared to most of the country. As others have said, no mortgage is a great thing I hope to one day experience. Decide now - Texas or Texas A&M.

Texas or Texas A&M.
Not even an issue, wife is a Longhorn. When Texas played USC in the national championship there was some serious fucking tension in the air.

I'm gonna enjoy being unemployed for about 2 months or so. We'll se what happens. i still need insurance

I've always been a fan of "y'all" , now I can use it without cultural appropriation.
