I'm not surprised in the slightest but I am disappointed.

Hey it feels like a veritable treasure trove after Combat Rock 40.Marky Dread wrote: ↑27 Jul 2022, 12:57pmYeah I'm sure there is. But c'mon 10 demos and a couple of outtakes from 100 tapes is small pickings.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I think it is the same version on both sides.Marky Dread wrote: ↑27 Jul 2022, 1:39pmDidn't the limited 7" single have two different versions?Flex wrote: ↑27 Jul 2022, 12:09pmMy first complaint: I'd have rounded up the various compilation rarities and so forth that were issues during the Meskies years as well, a few live cuts seem missing from the "extras" disc. I was going to complain about the lack of the vocal version of Minstrel Boy then remembered it was included on 001. I guess they're mostly try not to replicate the two volumes, which I appreciate. Other than the album tracks which appeared on 001, the only other track that seems to pop up on both is London is Burning, unless it's a different take.

Re: Joe Strummer 002 coming soon
Thankfully I only have global on vinyl (got the full set of albums on CD) so this is a nice release for me, I'm a sucker for box sets and 001 was really well done. Got one on order from my local record emporium. I expect a acton rerelease at some point too seeing as it's 20 years...003 sounds like it could be cool too.

I'm better off leaving that to your skills. It is a good version. From Discogs; "Previously unreleased, this is an alternative/early version of ‘Burning Streets’ by Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros. The track was originally titled ‘Fire Fighting Street’ and written for Joe’s show at Acton Town Hall for the Fire Brigade Union on November 15th 2002."Marky Dread wrote: ↑27 Jul 2022, 3:43pmYou selfish man! Disappointed there doesn't seem to be new stuff. Would have killed for a soundboard or demo of his last two songs, but if they're not here I suppose they don't exist. Even that Secret Agent Man track leaked a couple years ago. Anybody know what "Fantastic" is?

Wasn't there a lost tape from the Richard Norris/Strummer sessions? I think it had versions of Diggin the New and War Cry. Hopefully, stuff like this would make 003

Yes it was posted here a while back. The tracks merged into each other. I bet Norro has the originals.Telecaster wrote: ↑27 Jul 2022, 4:43pmWasn't there a lost tape from the Richard Norris/Strummer sessions? I think it had versions of Diggin the New and War Cry. Open to correction but I think it's Ramshackle Day Parade or some iteration of it.CorwoodRep wrote: ↑27 Jul 2022, 4:24pmDisappointed there doesn't seem to be new stuff. I get what you mean but actually it doesn't to me. No disrespect but we all know that if that CR reissue was teamed up with RP how different it could be. And we have those tracks in decent quality.matedog wrote: ↑27 Jul 2022, 2:55pmHey it feels like a veritable treasure trove after Combat Rock 40.Marky Dread wrote: ↑27 Jul 2022, 12:57pmYeah I'm sure there is. And we know that there were 100 tapes to source tracks for this 002 release. And we have no idea what else they contain other than the rock n roll covers mentioned.
Heston mentioned the tracks Joe probably recorded between '83 - '85. Now if there are more of those it would be great to get a release of those tracks on a specific compilation and not scattered over numerous releases.

Re: Joe Strummer 002 coming soon
What I find a bit frustrating is we get all these interviews from Luce and others involved enthusing about the sheer volume of material they've unearthed, but no real sense of when or even if we might get the real meat of it. Not that i harbour any grudge or anything, just after a while it gets to feel a bit of a tease!
